This is a ladies’ hand knit vintage wool Cowichan sweater featuring harlequin-like diamond pattern, based on a Mary Maxim pattern - the children’s version is number 899, but I’m unsure of the adult’s pattern number.  This vintage wool Cowichan sweater is made in tones of navy blue, light blue and beige.  The sweater does up with a metal “Lightning” zipper down the front and has a rounded collar, raglan sleeves and a small pocket at either bottom front side.  These types of sweaters are generically called Cowichans after a British Columbia native tribe called the Salish who live in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island on whose designs they are based.  They are also referred to as curling sweaters in Canada.

Sizing: No size is indicated, and although this vintage wool Cowichan sweater should fit a medium size, please rely on the following measurements for fit, comparing to a Cowichan or other sweater that you already own, if possible:

Shoulders:  15” across, estimated due to raglan sleeve

Sleeves: 22” long from the estimated shoulder - 29 1/2” from the mid-neck

Sleeve Inseam: 16” long

Bust: 40” around, taken under the arms

Bottom: 30” around, unstretched

Overall length: 25”, measured flat

Condition: This vintage wool Cowichan sweater is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, pulling, piling, staining or odour.

This is a well made vintage wool Cowichan sweater with very good quality heavy weight wool - cute pattern!
